Credit Union News & Events


Credit unions across Maine were busy serving their members and communities during the month of March. Here is a look at what Maine’s credit unions were up to:

  • March 17 marked the 5th anniversary of the opening of Acadia FCU’s Ashland branch.
  • Slugger of the Portland Sea Dogs visited Atlantic FCU on March 25. Throughout the season, Atlantic will be donating $10 for every run scored to Ending Hunger.
  • Capital Area FCU bowled to benefit Special Olympics Maine, raising almost $1,400.
  • Casco FCU held a special St. Patty’s Day Bake Sale with all proceeds benefiting Ending Hunger.
  • Central Maine CU offered young Monty Moose account holders the chance to win a new set of wheels. The winner of the Monty Moose drawing will get to ride away with a brand new bicycle.
  • Staff from Community CU attended Magnetize Maine’s 2019 Summit on March 29. While there, they participated in a discussion on engaging generations in the workplace and learned more about collaboration and competition.
  • Last month, cPort CU listed a $2M condo in Portland’s East End above their recently built Middle Street branch.
  • Down East CU held a Team Member Appreciation Day on March 29, with free ice cream and yogurt parfaits for members who stopped in to celebrate.
  • Five County CU was a proud sponsor of the 2019 Cares for Kids Radiothon on March 14, raising $3,420.
  • Gardiner FCU celebrated Member Appreciation Days on March 7 and 8 with tasty treats and spin-to-win games.
  • Infinity FCU hit the streets looking for a random act of kindness recipient on March 21. They crossed paths with Darling’s Ice Cream for a Cause, which was raising money for a young local woman courageously battling cystic fibrosis.
  • To incentivize members to leave reviews on their Facebook page, KV FCU started a drawing for a spring giveaway bundle. Those who review the credit union page will be entered into the drawing.
  • On March 19, Lincoln Maine FCU concluded their last day of volunteering with 3rd graders on behalf of Junior Achievement. The credit union recognizes the importance of early fiscal education.
  • Lisbon Community FCU held an Employee Blue Jeans Week from March 11-16, with participating staff raising money for Ending Hunger.
  • Maine Savings FCU made a $450 donation to the Captains Cupboard on March 29, which is a food pantry available to those in need at Southern Maine Community College.
  • Tucker Cole, Maine State CU’s President & CEO, had the honor of carrying the Maine State flag into the opening ceremony of CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference on March 10.
  • At their 63rd Annual Meeting on March 20, Midcoast FCU’s President & CEO Joe Gervais presented a commemorative bench honoring the memory of their late chairman, Bernie Wyman. Bernie served on the Board of Directors for the credit union since 1993. The bench is located in their Bath branch as a tribute to his legacy of dedication and support for his community.
  • On March 28, New Dimensions FCU’s Tanya Verzoni and Molly Woodward finished a five-week Junior Achievement course at William’s Elementary in Oakland.
  • Nikki and Lisa from NorState FCU’s Madawaska branch spent March 20 volunteering at the Madawaska Food Pantry.
  • Oxford FCU held two Financial Fitness Fairs last month – one at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and the other at Mountain Valley High School. Between the two schools, approximately 300 students participated in an insightful monthly budget simulation.
  • An appreciative, anonymous member had coffee and donuts delivers to Penobscot County FCU’s Howland branch on March 15.
  • To celebrate Red Sox opening day, each PeoplesChoice CU branch gave away a pair of Sea Dogs tickets every hour on March 28.
  • Sabattus Regional CU welcomed Girl Scout Troop 512 to their branch on March 16 to sell cookies.
  • Seaboard FCU announced their new Zoe’s Club on March 7. Zoe’s Club is a new savings and financial literacy club for young members under the age of 18.
  • Town & Country FCU staff participated in the Maine Cancer Foundation’s Mary’s Walk in Saco.
  • Trademark FCU launched their new mobile app on March 7.
  • Wanting to take some of the stress out of planning the special day, TruChoice FCU staffed a booth at the Freeport Wedding Show on March 24. The CU had a number of tips on how to finance a wedding and honeymoon.
