Young & Free Maine Sound Off Entry Phase Almost Over

February 22, 2016

The Young & Free Maine 2016 Sound Off Music Competition is currently underway and the entrants are trickling in! Don’t wait to enter—the entry phase comes to a close on Monday, February 29. The Sound Off Music Competition allows Maine-based solo artists and musicians to enter original music at for the chance to win amazing prizes.

New for this year, the competition has expanded to two categories: solo artists and bands. One first place prize package will be awarded in each category, consisting of a $500 Gift Certificate at Main Street Music Studios in Bangor.  Winners of the first prize will also be awarded a spot to perform live at the Old Port music festival, held in June 2016 in Portland.

Young & Free Spoekster Mallory Lavoie recently interviewed last year’s Sound Off winners—Sassquatch—to hear their thoughts on the competition one year later. Sassquatch guitar player and vocalist, Jared Wilkinson spoke highly of the competition noting that, “[the band] thought no matter the outcome, just playing and being heard and recognized and possibly walking away with something we can be proud of was great. We were all excited and passionate about this project.”

Sassquatch lead vocals, Christine McCormick said the Sound Off music competition is a great opportunity to be heard and network for all the budding young musicians in the state. “It’s great to get your name out there when it can be hard to push through those barriers,” she said.

Placing first in the 2015 Sound Off, gave the band the opportunity to record at Main Street Music Studios in Bangor where they recorded their first full length album. Wilkinson also notes that the band has gigs booked up through March and has hopes to start playing shows in New Hampshire and Massachusetts this spring.

Be sure to enter by Monday, February 29, by 5:00 p.m. Check out the last four years of Sound Off winners to get you inspired!
