Resolve Notes Efforts, Support Of Maine CUs For Financial Education As National CU Youth Week Begins

April 21, 2014

A Resolution declaring April as Fostering Financial Education Month in Maine notes the collaboration of Maine’s credit unions in “working with other organizations to coordinate events and support activities to highlight the criticality of helping and encouraging Maine’s young people to become financially capable adults in order to fulfill their life’s dreams and aspirations.”

The Resolution coincides with the start of National Credit Union Youth Week April 20-26, which encourages young members to “Catch the $ave Wave with Maine’s Credit Unions”!  To celebrate the Week, a number of Maine’s Credit Unions are participating in the National Youth Saving Challenge! Held in conjunction with National Credit Union Youth Week, the challenge can take place any time during the month of April, and encourages young members to make deposits at their credit unions.  Their efforts will be rewarded, as $100 cash prizes will be given to youth at 25 participating credit unions – an increase from 10 credit unions in previous years.   Last year, more than 117,000 young members deposited $25.2 million into their savings accounts during this national event - with 6,173 of those being new accounts!
