Maine Senate President Praises Maine CUs' Ending Hunger Initiatives

November 8, 2013

In a meeting with Quincy Hentzel, Director of Governmental Affairs for the Maine Credit Union League, Senator Justin Alfond, President of the Maine Senate, had strong praise for the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger.

“Senator Alfond has a strong passion to help eradicate food insecurity in our schools and is actively involved in a plan to help.  He was very impressed by what credit unions were doing to help end hunger in Maine, especially the recent efforts to assist programs dedicated to ending childhood hunger, such as the significant contribution the Campaign made in September to expand the school backpack program and school food pantry program through the Good Shepherd Food Bank.  He was also struck by the fact that credit unions in Maine have been behind this cause since 1990, and have raised nearly $5 million towards this effort,” explained Hentzel.

Senate President Alfond requested additional information about the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger and asked to be updated on a regular basis.  “It was nice to hear how positively the Campaign positions Maine’s credit unions not only with the general public but also with legislators,” added Hentzel.
