Red Claws Fan wins $3,300 with one shot, thanks to Maine CUs

Nothing but net!  That's what happened when Nate Pike took his turn at swishing a three-pointer in the 'Shot of the Game' contest, sponsored by Maine CUs, at this past Sunday's Maine Red Claws game.  Because no one had hit the shot yet this season, the jackpot had grown to $3,300.  Pike, who was randomly selected to take the shot, calmly sank it and, just like that, was $3,300 richer, as the crowd at the Portland Expo cheered loudly.

The 'Shot of the Game' is part of the partnership between Maine's credit unions and the Red Claws, and is among the most visible features at all home games.  "It's a fun way to highlight Maine credit unions and to tie in money and the benefits that make it worth 'taking a shot' at becoming a credit union member.  The Red Claws are a popular activity in the winter time, so the partnership reaches a lot of Maine consumers.  We couldn't be happier for Nate that he was a winner," remarked Debra Trautman, Vice President of Corporate Marketing for the Maine Credit Union League.

After Pike hit his shot, he was very excited.  "I'll probably do something smart with the money, you know, invest it.  I'm a big basketball fan so this is really cool.  Thanks to Maine's credit unions for the contest."

Jeremy Martin of the Red Claws explained how the contest works, and how the jackpot had grown to $3,300.  "A random fan attempts a single, NBA-distance 3-point shot. That was the 21st game of this season but 33rd game in a row without a made shot because we had carryover from last season. The pot starts up at $100, adding $100 to the pot for every game the fan misses. So 33 straight fans missed (and 20 straight this season) until Nate won himself $3,300.  We greatly appreciate the partnership with Maine's credit unions."
