Largest Financial Services' Network  In Maine Gets Bigger

August 20, 2014

The Shared Branch Network from Maine's credit unions, which already boasts nearly three times as many branches as any, single bank in Maine, has gotten even bigger with the recent addition of Ocean Communities FCU to the network.

The Maine Credit Union League brought the Shared Branch Network to Maine in 2004, and it initally had six credit unions with 11 branches participating.  Ten years later, the network now has participation from nearly 90% of the state's credit unions and nearly 170 branch locations.  Nationwide, the shared branch network has more than 5,100 locations and is the nation's fourth largest branch network.

Members of credit unions that participate in the shared branch network can conduct most financial transactions at any of the branches in Maine and thousands nationwide as if they were standing in the lobby of their own credit union.  "Shared branching provides both convenience and service - it's a great combination for credit union members," explained John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League.

Ocean Communities FCU has locations in Biddeford, Kennebunk, Saco, Sanford and Westbrook, and all are now part of the Shared Branch Network.
