Recently, Maine's largest, surcharge-free ATM Network, the SURF Network, from Maine's credit unions, reached another milestone with the implementation of its 250th location. "To have the largest, surcharge-free ATM network in Maine that not only remains popular but continues to grow with access and usage demonstrates what can be accomplished when we cooperate. SURF's success is a direct result of credit unions coming together to provide access and convenience to members, and it is delivering," remarked John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League.
Formed in 1999, as the result of special legislation introduced and supported by the Maine CU League, 95% of Maine credit unions with approximately 654,000 members participate in the SURF Network today. "SURF is a great differentiator for Maine credit unions and the fact that it has grown to be the largest, surcharge-free ATM Network in the state reinforces the strength of Maine's credit unions," added Murphy.
Rebekah Higgins, VP of Payment Systems for the Maine CU League, said ATM usage with Maine credit union members is high, and "having locations throughout the state is something our credit unions tell us their members appreciate."
