Memories From Past CU Leaders Part Of League’s 75th Anniversary Plans

Thursday, February 28, 2013

As preparations for the 75th Anniversary Meeting & Convention of the Maine Credit Union League continue in earnest, the League is reaching out to past credit union leaders and pioneers seeking their reflections and memories of the Maine CU Movement and their own involvement over the years.  Many of these will be highlighted as part of the Convention to be held on June 14-15, at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland.

"Throughout our history, there have been thousands of individuals who have been involved with and played significant roles in helping to found and grow not only their own credit union but the entire Maine CU Movement, as well," stated John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League, adding, "We wanted to capture some of their memories and thoughts on the past, and to highlight their observations of the many changes and milestones over the years."

Since reaching out to every Maine credit union seeking responses from past and current long-time board members and/or pioneers, the League has received a number of responses from individuals who have shared their memories.  "We look forward to sharing many of these at our Convention.  The strength of Maine's credit unions today is a direct result of the efforts of not only today's leaders and volunteers but of those who helped to pave the way over the 75-year history of the League.  This is our way of recognizing and honoring the past, present and future," Murphy explained.
