As of September 30, 2012, membership at Maine's credit unions reached its highest ever and now stands at 626,765 members statewide.

Through the first nine months of the year, Maine credit unions added nearly 10,000 new members, including close to 3,000 in the third quarter alone.  "For many years, we have talked about credit unions being 'the best kept secret in financial services', and it is great to see that the secret about the benefits and value of using a credit union is getting out to more consumers than ever," stated the Maine CU League's President John Murphy.

Other Year-to-Date figures from the Performance Summary for the Third Quarter showed assets have increased 4.6% and now stand at $5.87 billion, loans are up a robust 5.1%, an increase of nearly $200 million through nine months of the year, and shares grew by a healthy 5.2% to $5.03 billion.

"The collective efforts of your League's Statewide Awareness Campaign, strong media outreach and local credit union marketing initiatives have all contributed to the growth of Maine's credit unions," observed Murphy.
