Maine’s Credit Unions Search Maine’s 18-25 Crowd for the Next Young & Free Maine Spokester
April 14, 2014
Maine’s Credit Unions have launched their fourth search for a creative, tech-savvy individual to represent Generation Y (ages 18 to 25) as the “Spokester” (spokesperson) for their Young & Free Maine program.
Connecting with young people through social media networks, local events and more, the Young & Free Maine Spokester will continue to develop entertaining educational content, tips and tools to help members of Generation Y manage their day-to-day lives and finances. The program’s third Spokester, Lauren Reeves, will complete her one-year term in July.
“Over the past three years, we’ve watched the Young & Free Maine Program grow, as talented young Mainers have shared the benefits of Maine’s Credit Unions, while providing relevant advice, insight, and entertainment to Maine’s 25-and-under crowd.,” John Murphy, President/CEO of Maine Credit Union League, said. “This past year has been no exception for our current Spokester, Lauren Reeves. As her eventful year comes to an end, we’re looking for someone who’s creative, energetic and outgoing, someone who can use social media to connect with their peers, get involved in the community and continue to share all that Maine’s Credit Unions have to offer this generation.”
From April 2 to May 19, creative people between the ages of 18 and 25 are invited to apply for the “ultimate job” as the Young & Free Maine Spokester. To enter, applicants are asked to write a statement describing how they would bring their creativity and skills in the Spokester position, including what personal goals, vision and expectations they would set for their term as Young & Free Maine Spokester. Applicants will also be asked to share an online portfolio or examples of their work, as well as a current resume.
Maine’s Credit Unions will narrow the submissions down to three finalists, who will then proceed to the "If I were a Spokester" phase. Finalists in this phase will be required to produce a short video based on their application written statement, and provide a sample blog on a financial specific topic. These will be posted on the web site for the public vote phase.
The public vote phase, which will help determine the winner, will take place from June 16 -27. Upon selection, the Young & Free Maine Spokester will participate in events throughout the year, write daily blog entries and post weekly videos to the YoungFreeMaine.com website.
The search for the Young & Free Spokester is part of a greater initiative for 18 to 25 year olds called Young & Free Maine. It includes a financial headstart with an account called the Free4ME Account, designed with 18 to 25 year olds in mind. Maine is the only New England state to offer this program, which has proven successful in connecting with Gen Y in regions throughout North America. For more information, visit www.YoungFreeMaine.com.
