Maine's Credit Unions have officially launched the third search for a creative, tech-savvy individual to represent Generation Y (ages 18 to 25) as the "Spokester" (spokesperson) for the Young & Free Maine program. The search runs from April 12-May 24.
Connecting with young people through social media networks, local events and more, the Young & Free Maine Spokester will continue to develop entertaining educational content, tips and tools to help members of Generation Y manage their day-to-day lives and finances. The program's second Spokester, Kylie Keene, will complete her one-year term in July.
"It's been a busy year for Maine's second Young & Free Spokester, Kylie Keene. From blogging about everything from money-saving tips to mouthwatering weekly recipes, and driving the bright green Chevy Cruz throughout the state to interview the subject for her next 'On the Road' video, she's been making a real connection with Maine's 25 and under crowd," John Murphy, President/CEO of Maine Credit Union League, said. "As her eventful year comes to an end, we're looking for someone who's creative, energetic and outgoing, someone who can use social media to connect with their peers, get involved in the community and continue to share all that Maine's Credit Unions have to offer this generation."
From April 12 to May 24, creative people between the ages of 18 and 25 are invited to apply for the "ultimate job" as the Young & Free Maine Spokester. The winner must showcase an ability to relate to Generation Y while demonstrating his/her creative tech-savvy. To enter, applicants must submit a 60-second YouTube video and write a blog post that demonstrates their writing, editing and creative skills. The videos and blog posts will be posted at www.YoungFreeMaine.com. Maine's Credit Unions will narrow the submissions down to three finalists. The winner will then be selected by an online vote by the public, which will take place from June 7 -18.
Upon selection, the Young & Free Maine Spokester will participate in events throughout the year, write daily blog entries and post weekly videos to the YoungFreeMaine.com website. A job opportunity loaded with perks, the winner will also receive a smart phone with a paid contract for the year and an Apple laptop, which the Spokester will be able to keep at the end of his/her term. The Spokester will also have use of the Young & Free Maine vehicle.
The search for the Young & Free Spokester is part of a greater initiative for 18 to 25 year olds called Young & Free Maine. It includes a financial headstart with an account called the Free4ME Account, designed with 18 to 25 year olds in mind. Maine is the only New England state to offer this program, which has proven successful in connecting with Gen Y in regions throughout North America. For more information, visit www.YoungFreeMaine.com. The deadline to apply for the Spokester position is May 24 at noon. Online voting commences on June 7 and runs until June 18. The winner will be announced by June 21.
