Maine's Credit Unions Introduce A 'Spirited' New Sponsorship
January 13, 2014

The Maine Credit Union League’s Statewide Awareness Committee has introduced an exciting new sponsorship!  In an effort to raise both awareness for credit unions, and funds for Ending Hunger, Maine’s Credit Unions are sponsoring WGME’s School Spirit Challenge, which began on Friday, January 10, and continues through the end of February.

The Challenge is a friendly competition between schools to show school pride and spirit, all while helping the community. The program is designed to promote the community and good stewardship with students of high schools in Central and Southern Maine through an ongoing food drive to benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Schools will compete to raise the most pounds of food during the varsity basketball season. CBS 13 News will feature a different school every Friday on their Daybreak program through February 28. The winner of the School Spirit Challenge wins the coveted Spirit Cup Trophy.  A representative from the League will be in attendance at each Rally, providing another opportunity to share the benefits of Maine’s Credit Unions, as well as Maine CUs’ Campaign for Ending Hunger.

"Maine's credit unions are leaders in ending hunger and this is an opportunity to highlight that leadership to a new audience.  We are really pleased to be a part of this.  If the first rally at McAuley High School is any indication of the spirit and passion that young people have about not only their school but helping their communities, it will be a great challenge," stated Jon Paradise, AVP of Governmental & Public Affairs for the Maine Credit Union League.

Tune in every Friday from 5 a.m. - 7 a.m., to watch different high schools showing their school 'spirit' and helping to end hunger in Maine.
