The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland, and Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, along with other Maine hospitals that serve children received significant support from Maine's credit unions through the Children's Miracle Network.  Between fundraisers and support efforts involving credit union chapters, the Maine Credit Union League and individual credit unions, Maine's children's hospitals received nearly $50,000 in financial and in-kind support recently.

The biggest fundraising effort came this past spring when the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions hosted its annual CMN Raffle and Auction, which raised nearly $22,000 for CMN in Maine.  The Chapter has raised more than $250,000 for CMN since the late 1990s.  In addition, the Maine Credit Union League was once again the primary sponsor of the Phone Bank during the Binnie Media CMN Radio-thon at Maine Medical Center. The League was part of an effort that raised nearly $300,000 through the Radio-thon that aired on 107.5 Frank FM and 99.9 The Wolf.  During the radio-thon, the League highlighted the commitment of Maine's credit unions to "helping the community, whether it's childhood hunger or children who need medical treatment."

Several other Maine credit unions did individual fundraisers including Five County Credit Union which had a Skip-A-Payment promotion for CMN that raised more than $6,000.  "Credit unions do a great job of helping others; it is part of the 'people helping people' philosophy.  Maine's credit unions take the role of being a part of a community not just in it very seriously in everything we do," remarked Jon Paradise, AVP for Governmental & Public Affairs for the Maine Credit Union League.
