Maine CUs Remember Day President Bush's Press Secretary Shared 9/11 Notes At Event

September 11, 2015

As America and the world pauses to remember the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01 in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, PA, Maine's credit unions remember having the honor of having Ari Fleischer, who was President Bush's Press Secretary and with the President on 9/11, speak at an event, hosted by the Maine CU League, in Freeport several years ago. At the event, Fleischer shared his private notes of 9/11 with the Maine CU audience.

"Ari Fleischer was such a familiar face during that time, and having him come to Maine and speak to Maine credit unions was a great honor.  When he shared some of his private notes that he took traveling with President Bush on 9/11, it was a privilege.  Hearing his reflections and observations from a day that we will never forget was very moving.  We were fortunate that Ari gave us a glimpse of moments very few others saw," remarked John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League.

Fleischer told the League and the credit union audience, "To witness the manner and dignity in which so many people conducted themselves on that day forever changed my life, as I know it did many others.  I will never forget that day, and will eternally try to honor the memory of those who perished in the name of freedom."
