Maine CUs: Best Places For Financial Services, And For Work

October 27, 2014

In survey after survey and report after report, Maine credit unions typically outrank all other financial institutions when it comes to satisfaction, service and value.  Judging by the recent results of the 2014 Best Places to Work in ME Report, employees also give credit unions high marks as employers, too.

Now in its ninth year, the Best Places to Work in ME is a program that is coordinated by the SHRM Maine State Council and the Best Companies Group.  In 2014, seven Maine credit unions placed among the 70 Best Places to Work in ME including the second time in three years that a Maine credit union ranked first among employers with 15-49 employees. Portland-based TruChoice FCU took the top honor this year, with President/CEO Kenneth Acker calling the CU's working envrionment one that "is professional but where laughing is allowed.  We go out of our way to make sure every member of our team feels respected and valued."  In the Medium Companies category (50-249 employees), two of the top three rankings went to credit unions with Town & Country FCU ranked #2 and Infinity FCU ranked #3.

Other credit unions and related organizations honored as Best Places to Work in Maine were: PeoplesChoice CU, Maine State CU, Maine Savings FCU, and the Maine Credit Union League/Synergent.  "The culture of credit unions is not only focused on serving their member-owners but also on providing a positive workplace for employees.  It's great to see so many credit unions recognized for these efforts," explained John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League.
