Maine CU League Honored With National Awards

April 21, 2015

The Maine Credit Union League and Maine’s credit unions picked up multiple national awards recently.  The League received the Awards in March just weeks apart at separate ceremonies in Washington, D.C., and Las Vegas, NV. At the Annual Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, the League received the first-place Desjardins Award for Youth Financial Education.  The League was recognized for “its leadership in developing initiatives, programs and support for expanding participation and awareness in youth financial education for Maine students.  From hosting a record-setting 6,043 students at one of its 30 Financial Fitness Fairs during the 2013/14 school year to providing financial tips and expertise through multiple media channels, the League and Maine’s credit unions are outstanding advocates on this issue.”
Jon Paradise, Vice President of Governmental & Public Affairs for the League, remarked, “We are pleased to be honored and recognize that the efforts of the League and credit unions are having a positive impact but realize there is much more work to be done when it comes to helping children and young adults to better understand money management.”
Two weeks later at the CUNA Marketing Council Conference in Las Vegas, the Maine CU League and Maine’s credit unions taking home three national awards. The League’s Statewide Awareness Campaign, “Use a Credit Union & Own It,” took top honors with a Category’s Best Diamond Award.  The 2015 Dues Brochure, which included a video and other collateral materials, received a first-place Diamond Award.  Finally, at the same Conference, the League achieved a first-place Blockbuster Award from the American Association of Credit Union Leagues for its involvement in the School Spirit Challenge for Ending Hunger program, a partnership between the League, CBS 13 WGME and FOX 23.
Debra Trautman, Vice President of Corporate Marketing for the League, said the national recognition for our marketing and awareness efforts “reinforces the role that collaboration and support plays in success.  From our Statewide Awareness Committee and our credit unions to the entire production team and countless volunteers, we worked together to create a Statewide Awareness Campaign that is different, engaging and robust.  The Dues Brochure also represents a collaborative effort between our marketing, communications and direct marketing services divisions. We can all be proud of these awards.”
