Maine CU League-endorsed candidates have high success rate on Election Day
November 10, 2016
Although several automatic recounts will likely be triggered in a few races, unofficial results from Election Day point to a big winner - Maine's credit unions. Of the 160 legislative candidates endorsed by the Maine Credit Union League, 143 were victorious giving the League an overall endorsement success rate for the Maine Legislature at an impressive 89%. By chamber, the League had an 87% success rate in the Maine Senate, and a 91% success rate in the Maine House.
In its special, comprehensive Election recap, Advocacy Matters, that the League distributed to all credit unions the day after the Election, the League outlined the active role and significant involvement it had in the 2016 Elections. "From making our highest number of candidate endorsements ever and knocking on doors to scheduling candidate visits to local credit unions and coordinating 'Get Out the Vote' materials, the efforts of the League and Maine's credit unions made a difference on Election Day. As a result, Maine's credit unions are very well-positioned with the new 128th Maine Legislature," stated Maine CU League President John Murphy.
Murphy said that the League will be sending congratulatory letters to every winning candidate, as well as Invitations to attend one of its League's Legislative Breakfasts or Lunches happening in every region of the state at the end of November and early December. "Our work at building and strengthening our relationships with returning and new legislators has already begun, and will be our focus in the coming weeks. We are heading into a new Legislature in a very strong position."
