Maine Credit Unions Celebrate Youth Members All Month Long

April 9, 2015

April marks National Credit Union Youth Month, taking place April 1-30, featuring a new kid-friendly jungle theme, “Wild About Saving.” Maine credit unions across the state are celebrating their younger members all month long with the financial tips, tools, and a few wild ideas to help them navigate the jungle of savings at a young age. This year’s extended celebration gives credit unions additional time to attract new members and make an even bigger impact in young financial lives.

In addition to Youth Month, Credit Union National Association (CUNA) hosts the annual National Youth Saving Challenge. The Saving Challenge also takes place during the entire month of April and serves as a way for credit unions to connect with young members and their families. Credit unions are challenged to open new youth accounts and encourage yound children and their families to make deposits.

CUNA will report the results at the end of the month to see which credit unions earned the most youth deposits in addition to awarding $100 cash prizes to youth at 25 participating credit unions. Last Year, 94,466 young members deposited more than $20.5 million into their savings accounts during this national event—with 8,844 of those being new accounts!

Stop by a local Maine credit union and be a part of the celebration!
