Legislative Events Reinforce Strong Relationships Between Many Legislators, Maine CUs
November 25, 2014
In preparation for when the new 127th Maine Legislature convenes on Wednesday, December 3, the Maine Credit Union League has coordinated a series of Legislative Breakfasts and Luncheons across Maine. One event is pending for South Portland, and will be held on Thursday, December 11. To date, nearly 90 legislators have attended one of the events.
Events have been held, so far, in Augusta, Bangor, Brunswick, Caribou, and Lewiston. At each event, area legislators and local credit unions have gotten together to discuss issues, strengthen and build relationships and provide updates and information about the important role that Maine credit unions play in the lives of hundreds of thousands of Maine consumers. Among those attending were two legislators who are Credit Union Board Members, Rep. Michel Lajoie, Board Chair at Lewiston Municipal FCU, and Rep. John Picchiotti, Board Chair at KSW FCU. Another legislator with strong CU ties, newly-elected Rep. Donna Doore, whose husband is the Board Chair at Capital Area FCU, attended the Augusta Luncheon.
“We are really pleased at the turnout of legislators, and with the number of questions and discussion that has taken place, so far. The feedback from legislators has been positive, and many have expressed how happy they are with their local credit union,” explained John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League, who provided an update and overview on Maine’s credit unions in his remarks at each event.
