Wednesday, May 8, 2013

In response to the recent fires in the city of Lewiston, area credit unions have joined together to create an easy and secure way to raise funds for those who have been affected by these recent events. Through an initiative titled, LIFTING LEWISTON: Credit Unions Coming Together to Support Our Neighbors, community members can make a donation at a number of area credit union locations.  All funds raised will go to the American Red Cross - United Valley Chapter.

"Maine credit unions and their members have a long history of answering the call to help others.  The credit union movement is strong and deeply rooted in the Lewiston/Auburn area, where their focus has always been on people helping people," John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League, explained.  "It is our hope that the funds raised through these efforts will support those affected in beginning the process of rebuilding what they have lost."

Participating credit unions include: Central Maine FCU, Community CU, Great Falls FCU, Lewiston Municipal FCU, Maine Family FCU, Monmouth FCU, Rainbow FCU, Sabattus Regional CU, Five County CU, Lisbon Community FCU, and Midcoast FCU.
