February 1, 2008 The Maine Credit Unions' Ending Hunger Walking Tour has been honored yet again by receiving a first-place PRO Award as part of CUNA's Annual PRO & Blockbuster Awards program. The Walking Tour, an event that is held each November to contribute funds and raise awareness about the problem of hunger in Maine and the efforts of Maine's credit unions to help, won the first-place PRO Award for Best Community Relations Program.
The PRO and Blockbuster Awards are presented each year to state leagues and league service corporations for excellence in public relations, marketing and advertising. Since the Tour began in 2002, it has received five national and three state awards.
The 2007 Tour covered more than 700 miles on foot, visited 52 communities, and contributed $25,000 to hunger organizations across Maine.
