December 19, 2007 According to Bull Moose Music, which tracks CD sales across Maine, the Christmas in Maine 20th Anniversary CD featuring many of Maine's foremost recording artists is the best selling CD in the State, and that is good news for the cause of ending hunger in Maine, which benefits from every CD sold. The CD, a partnership between Con Fullam, the producer of the CD and Maine's credit unions, not only features several versions of the song Governor Baldacci recently proclaimed the official Christmas Song of the State of Maine, The Maine Christmas Song, but also includes holiday songs from some of Maine's most well-known and beloved artists. The CD includes tracks by Grammy Winners, Noel Paul Stookey, and Paul Sullivan, as well as contributions by Schooner Fare, Dave Mallett, The Windham Chamber Singers, Don Campbell, The Dave Rowe Trio, Joan Kennedy with Dan Merrill, Malinda Liberty singing the original version of The Maine Christmas Song with a special introduction by the late actor, Gary Merrill, and Melanie Dorice Saucier, is hoping to raise a significant amount of money for those most in need this holiday season. In concert with the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger, Con Fullam, who also wrote The Maine Christmas Song, is donating $4.00 from the sale of every CD to the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger, a Campaign that has raised and contributed more than $2.3 million to help end hunger in Maine since 1990.
Through a collective effort by Maine's credit unions, all funds raised support food pantries, soup kitchens and food banks throughout Maine. In statistics provided by Good Shepherd Food Bank, Maine's largest food bank, each real dollar raised equals sixteen dollars in food contributions, thus, a contribution of $40,000, the first-year goal set by Fullam, translates into $664,000 worth of food
Jon Paradise, Governmental & Public Affairs Manager of the Maine Credit Union League, explained, "In a winter when gas and oil prices are literally forcing thousands of Maine families to choose between heat, transportation and food- every contribution, big and small, will make a huge difference in the health and well being of many of our friends and neighbors. We hope sales continue to be strong right through Christmas."
The CDs are being sold through the holidays at most credit unions across Maine, and online at www.mainecul.org.
