January 12, 2007 As the 123rd Maine Legislature's first session gets underway, the Maine Credit Union League has met with most of the new legislative leaders and heard strong praise on the positive role that Maine's credit unions provide to Maine consumers.
In the past couple of weeks, representatives from Maine's credit unions have met with Senate President, Beth Edmonds, Senate Minority leader, Carol Weston, Speaker of the House, Glenn Cummings, House Majority Leader, Hannah Pingree, and Assistant House Majority Leader, Sean Faircloth. Meetings will be held with House Minority Leader and Assistant Minority Leader, Josh Tardy and Robert Crosthwaite, by the end of January.
Senate President Beth Edmonds said, "I am a proud credit union member and strongly support all that credit unions do for the people of Maine." Senate Minority Leader, Carol Weston, echoed Edmonds' comments, adding, "Credit unions must be supported in order to enable them to continue to serve their members in the best possible way."
