Maine CUs' Fundraisers Collect $32,000 For Ending Hunger

May 29, 2007

In a two-day period, May 17th and May 18th, the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger raised more than $32,000 through the Maine CU League's Annual Ending Hunger Convention Golf Tournament and Silent Auction.

The golf tournament was held on Thursday, May 17th, at the Augusta Country Club and, despite cold temperatures, the tournament had no rain and an overflow field of 168 golfers took to the links. Between greens fees and sponsors, the event raised an impressive $26,000 for the Maine CUs' Campaign for Ending Hunger, about $8,000 more than last year's record-setting tournament.

On Friday, May 18th, an additional $6,000 was raised for the Campaign at the Maine CU League's Annual Convention Silent Auction. From Red Sox tickets to gift cards, bidding was fast and furious all night long and the record 82 items up for bid were all spoken for. The Silent Auction's 2007 total beat last year's record by $1,500.

"This gives a tremendous boost to the 2007 Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger, and is, hopefully, a gauge that this will be another tremendous year," explained Jon Paradise of the Maine CU League.

Since 1990, the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised more than $2.3 million to help end hunger in Maine.
