Maine CUs Open New Locations

July 3, 2007

In the past few weeks, two Maine credit unions have opened new branch offices, bringing the total number of credit union locations in Maine to 176, a figure that tops 200 when additional ATM locations are factored in.

On Saturday, June 23, Town & Country FCU held a ribbon-cutting for its new Saco branch on Elm Street. This branch opening falls on the heels of Maine Savings FCU's opening of two branches in Bangor on Hammond Street and Broadway in late May.

"Branching remains an important part of increasing visibility and presence of Maine's credit unions. Thanks to an increase number of branches and the growing popularity of the shared branch network in Maine, we have made significant progress in enhancing the convenience of using a credit union," explained Maine CU League President John Murphy.

In the coming months, at least four credit unions have new branches slated to open including cPort CU in Scarborough, PeoplesChoice CU in Saco, York County FCU in Biddeford, and University CU in Farmington and Portland.
