Aroostook County CUs Join Shared Branch Network; Statewide Coverage Realized As Locations Top 100

May 1, 2009

Maine's largest network of financial institutions continues to grow!  Recently, Maine Credit Union's Shared Branching Network announced that coverage has been expanded to include Aroostook County, giving the network statewide coverage.

The addition of Aroostook County includes 11 new locations with Acadia FCU, NorState FCU, and The County FCU joining the network and bringing the total number of locations in Maine to more than 105.  The shared branching network gives the nearly 415,000 members of participating Maine credit unions access to nearly twice as many branches as any other financial institution in the state.

With Shared Branching, credit union members can use other participating credit unions just as if it were their own, all at no charge!  In addition to the over 100 locations now in Maine, there are over 3,600 locations across the country, and even internationally.

John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League, explained that the expansion of Shared Branching in Maine is another example of how Maine credit unions work to bring convenience to their members.  "Maine's credit unions are always looking for ways to improve the lives of their members, be it through the ability to get a loan when they most need one, to offering the latest in technology, to providing access to a credit union branch wherever they may be," he explained.  "In today's economic climate, the opportunity to save travel time, effort and fuel through accessing a nearby Shared Branching location is extremely valuable, especially from a convenience standpoint, to credit union members."
