September 7, 2007 For the first time ever, a sitting NCUA board member came to the Maine Credit Union League for a Roundtable discussion with nearly 75 credit union Presidents/CEOs, senior management and several board volunteers from Maine's credit unions.
Hosted by John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League, National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Vice Chairman Rodney Hood came to the Maine Credit Union League on Friday, September 7, and spoke about the state of the Credit Union Movement including the high degree of satisfaction consumers have with credit unions, as well as new initiatives and priorities, and took a number of questions on issues including regulatory, compliance and the strength of the CU Movement during his almost two-hour visit.
During his visit, Vice Chairman Hood applauded the strength of Maine's credit unions, calling them "safe, sound, secure and growing." The Vice Chairman applauded Maine's credit unions for outpacing the national average in asset and savings growth. "Maine credit unions are serving their 600,000 member-owners extremely well, and it is truly an honor to have an opportunity to tell you that in person."
Vice Chairman Hood also commended the efforts of Maine's credit unions in youth financial literacy and also mentioned the fundraising efforts to help end hunger in Maine. "These are examples of the credit union strength of the credit union philosophy of 'people helping people'."
