May 6, 2008 For the seventh time in the past nine years, a Maine credit union has received a national award for its community-service and member education efforts. Recently, Maine Family Federal Credit Union of Lewiston was presented with a first-place Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. The program, which is coordinated through the Maine Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), reviews entries of winners of awards at the state level to determine the national winners. Public relations professionals from across the country judged the nearly 175 entries submitted to the national competition.
Maine Family Federal Credit Union received a first-place award for credit unions in the $50-$100 million asset category for its 'Step' program that solicited stories from members on the opportunities and benefits that the credit union has provided in their lives.
"Congratulations to Maine Family FCU on winning a first-place award in this prestigious competition. What Maine credit unions do to help their members and their communities is significant and the fact that a Maine credit union has received an award in this national program reinforces that fact," explained John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League.
