March 10, 2008 As part of its long-term partnership with Portland-based radio station, 107.5 FRANK FM, Maine's credit unions were again given top billing as one of the major supporters of the Annual Frank Cares for Kids Radio-thon to benefit the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. The Radio-thon, which aired from March 6-8, raised $153,000 for the local Children's Miracle Network and will benefit thousands of Maine children and their families with life-threatening illnesses.
During the three-day radio-thon, Maine's credit unions sponsored the Maine Credit Unions' Phone Bank where listeners could call in and make pledges and donations to the cause. In addition, Frank FM made a $500 financial contribution on behalf of Maine's credit unions to the event.
Jon Paradise, Governmental & Public Affairs Manager for the Maine Credit Union League, spoke on-air during the Radio-thon and remarked, "These types of events represent all that is good about Maine people and their willingness to help one another. As Maine consumers know, helping others is what credit unions are all about and that is part of what makes Maine's credit unions so special, the ability to assist communities across Maine both financially and for the common good of all."
In addition to the Portland event, the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions participates in a similar Radio-thon to support the Children's Miracle Network each spring in Bangor. Since 2000, the Bangor Chapter has raised more than $100,000 for this cause.
