Radio interview Highlights strengths, popularity (and superhero status) of Maine's credit unions

How positive was an interview that started out with the line, "Credit unions are superheroes?" That was just one of the positive soundbytes that came out of an interview recently that featured John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League, as a guest on the widely-listened to George Hale and Ric Tyler Morning Show on The Voice of Maine NewsTalk radio network. The opening remark was prompted by Tyler suggesting Maine's credit unions as "superheroes," and Murphy responded in the affirmative with, "Maine's credit unions are superheroes." Read More...


Maine's Congressional Delegation to Maine CUs: "Thank you for how you serve Maine people everyday!"

While not much legislation is getting passed on Capitol Hill these days, Maine's Congressional Delegation were all in agreement in their declaration of support and praise for Maine's credit unions. New Young & Free Maine Spokester Announced

It's official! Jake Holmes is the new Young & Free Spokester for Maine's 25-and- under crowd. The official announcement was made at this year's Convention during the 78th Annual Delegates' Meeting & Luncheon on Friday, May 20. As part of its recent 78th Annual Meeting & Convention held in Portland, the Maine Credit Union League presented its Annual Awards to six individuals who, combined, have nearly 175 years of experience being involved with Maine's credit unions. Membership, Loan Growth Spur Record 2015 For Maine CUs

In the past two years, more than 30,000 Maine consumers have joined a Maine credit union, continuing the migration of consumers to credit unions for financial services. This brings total credit union membership in Maine to 667,427. In recently released year-end statistics of Maine's credit unions, 2015 saw strong growth in not only membership but in all other significant categories including a $351 million increase in new loans over the past year. Maine CUs' Contribute Nearly $830,000 In Volunteer Time

With the celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 10-16), the Maine Credit Union League released its results for documented volunteer time contributed by Maine credit unions in 2015. Through its CUs' Share for ME Volunteer program, the League is pleased to report that Maine credit unions collectively volunteered a total of 40,085 hours for community organizations, activities and events during the past year, the second highest documented total in the 14-year history of the program. . Music and Money prove right in tune for aspiring Maine musicians

Finalists in the band and soloist/duo categories of the Sound Off Music Competition gathered at the Next Generation Theater in Brewer recently, to perform their original music live before a panel of judges. Portland-based duo Happy Folk and the band Max Ater & The Marshalls of Bath were the Grand Prize winners of 'Sound Off', sponsored by Maine's credit unions. Both winners received a $500 gift certificate to Main Street Music Studios and the opportunity to perform at the 2016 Old Port Festival on Sunday, June 12. Read More...
