Maine CUs' Partnership with high schools, Good Shepherd Food Bank, and TV Stations yields Nearly 175,000 lbs of food for Maine's hungry

On Friday, March 10, Season 8 of the School Spirit Challenge on WGME CBS 13 and FOX 23 concluded in a special ceremony at their studios and the big winner was: Ending Hunger in Maine. The effort, which challenges high schools to raise food and money, was once again sponsored by Maine's credit unions and the Maine CUs' Campaign for Ending Hunger. The five participating schools collectively raised nearly 175,000 lbs of food, with Telstar Regional High School in Bethel taking top honors by raising nearly 60,000 lbs of food. Read More...


Largest ever Maine CU attendance at Washington, D.C., Conference hears lots of praise from Maine's Congressional Delegation

Nearly 95 representatives from credit unions throughout Maine attended the 2017 Credit Union National Association's (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference from February 26 - March 2, in Washington, D.C. Sound-Off Competition Enters Voting Phase

With submissions from a variety of musicians, the Young & Free Maine's 'Sound Off' competition has entered the voting phase. From now until March 9, votes are being cast to determine the Top 2 in both the Soloist/Duo category and the Groups category. Strength of Maine CUs Highlighted in Regional Report

Recently, the New England Council released a report called, The New England Financial Services Industry: Around the Corner and Around the World, and, in it, the strength of Maine's credit unions were among the headlines in the section on Maine. The report provided an overview and analysis of the financial services industry in each New England state, and underscored the important role that the industry plays not only with consumers but as employers. "From a credit union perspective, we appreciate being included in the report, and were pleased that Maine's total credit union membership was highlighted for added significance," remarked John Murphy, President of the Maine CU League. In re-introducing Senior$afe legislation, Senator Collins cites a Maine CU's work in preventing elder financial abuse

Recently, Senator Collins re-introduced the Senior$afe Act of 2017 (S.223), and the Senator highlighted the work of Maine's credit unions in keeping seniors' finances safe. While introducing the bill, Senator Collins gave an example of how a Maine credit union was instrumental in preventing elder financial abuse. Maine CUs announce raising record-setting $675K for Ending Hunger

On Tuesday, February 7, representatives from Maine’s credit unions gathered at the Harraseeket Inn for the 2016 Ending Hunger Campaign Results Celebration Luncheon. At this annual event, credit unions are recognized for raising funds for the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. Maine CUs seeking to "Let the Music Play," as search for Sound-Off entries begins

Courting A New Record! Annual Basketball Tournament, coordinated by Maine CUs, raises $52,650 for children's cancer

When the first C-U Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge (in memory of Dr. Noel Paradise) was held in 1994, the event raised $575 and featured seven teams. Fast forward to 23 years later and the 2017 event, which was held on Sunday, January 15, featured 50 teams and raised a record-setting $52,650 for the Maine Children's Cancer Program. Read More...
