National Volunteer Week highlights impact of Maine CU volunteering

In 2016, Maine credit union staff and volunteers contributed nearly 38,000 hours in volunteer time, worth nearly $820,000 in time, to causes, organizations, events and activities as documented through the Maine CU League's CUs Share for ME volunteer program. "From helping at the local little league field and teaching financial education in schools to serving meals at the local soup kitchen and playing basketball to help children with cancer, Maine credit unions exemplify the credit union philosophy of 'people helping people' every day," said Jon Paradise, Vice President of Governmental and Public Affairs for the Maine CU League, in announcing the results of CU volunteering during National Volunteer Week. Mason officially becomes 4th President/CEO of Maine CU League

On Monday, April 24, Todd Mason officially became the fourth President/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League and its subsidiary, Synergent. Two Maine CUs hope others race to help end hunger

Two Maine credit unions are coordinating upcoming events aimed at raising funds and awareness for ending hunger, and participation in both events are open to other CUs and the community. On Saturday, April 29, Maine State CU will host its Annual Feed ME 5K Walk/Run in Augusta; and on Saturday, May 20, York County FCU its first ever Run to End Hunger 5K Walk and Run in Alfred. Maine CUs shine with national awards

Since it debuted in late 2016, the Maine Credit Union League's new Statewide Awareness Campaign, "Belong to a CU and Own It," has received significant, positive feedback and attention from consumers. Last week at the Credit Union National Association's (CUNA) Diamond Awards ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, the Campaign was honored with a prestigious Best in Category Diamond Award. Year-End Statistics confirms popularity, usage of Maine Credit Unions surged again in 2016, New milestones reached

According to recently-released year-end statistics for 2016, the popularity and usage of Maine’s credit unions continued to surge in 2016 in all growth categories, led by an increase of nearly 20,000 new members in the past year alone. As of year-end 2016, membership in Maine’s credit unions grew to 685,926 members. While membership growth was impressive, perhaps, even more impressive and important to Maine’s economy was the fact that Maine’s credit unions reported an increase of more than $456 million in lending. Legislators heap praise on Maine's credit unions at CU Day in Augusta

For the record, Maine credit unions are popular with and appreciated by legislators. That was the prevailing theme at the Annual Maine CU Day at the State House, held on Thursday, March 30, in the Hall of Flags in Augusta. Red Claws fan wins $3,300 with one shot, thanks to Maine CUs

Nothing but net! That's what happened when Nate Pike took his turn at swishing a three-pointer in the 'Shot of the Game' contest, sponsored by Maine CUs, at this past Sunday's Maine Red Claws game. Because no one had hit the shot yet this season, the jackpot had grown to $3,300. Pike, who was randomly selected to take the shot, calmly sank it and, just like that, was $3,300 richer, as the crowd at the Portland Expo cheered loudly. Read More...


Technology makes Maine winter 'snow problem' for Maine CU members

If spring is truly upon us, winter hasn't heard yet. With last Tuesday's blizzard in many parts of Maine, it was another day of travel disruption, closed schools and businesses. However, thanks to the the latest technology, many of Maine's 685,000 credit union members were able to conduct transactions, obtain loans and access their accounts, even though their branch was closed because of the storm.
