CUs Share for ME Program

CU Share LogoIn 2011, 36 Maine credit unions participated in the program called Credit Unions Share for ME, a program that tracks volunteerism by Maine credit unions and keeps a central data base of this information.  A record-setting 35,008 hours were volunteered by Maine credit unions in 2011.  Since it began in 2002, Credit Unions Share for ME has tabulated more than 215,000 hours of volunteer time that has been contributed by Maine's credit unions.  Although this is an impressive number, we know that nearly all, if not all, Maine credit unions and their staff and volunteers contribute their time and efforts to a variety of causes in their own communities that never get included.

Through Credit Unions Share for ME, the League is asking each credit union tabulate the volunteer hours employees provide on a monthly basis (in and outside of the Credit Union) and submit the form to the League at the end of each month.  This data will be used to compile the amount of volunteer hours that Maine's Credit Unions, as a whole, give on a monthly and annual basis.  In addition, data and documentation such as this would be beneficial to provide to political leaders, the media and the general public.  When presenting issues before the United States Congress, CUNA frequently calls upon state leagues to provide this type of information in an effort to strengthen the credit unions' position.

It is critical to the success of this program that more credit unions participate.  The League's Social Responsibility Committee is not asking your Credit Union to do anything new, except calculate and submit a master volunteer tracking form once a month.  A master tracking sheet is even faxed to your credit union on a monthly basis.

In this age of increased competition, the Maine Credit Union League is confident that Credit Unions Share for ME has already proven to be a strong way to differentiate and highlight the unique and positive attributes of the Maine Credit Union movement.
