Youth Financial ServicesWhen it comes to youth financial education, the Maine Credit Union League and Maine's credit unions are second-to-none. In fact, the Maine Credit Union Movement is the most-honored Credit Union Movement in the country when it comes to youth financial education. Maine's credit unions have received five consecutive Desjardins Awards for Youth Financial Education, a national Awards program that recognizes youth financial literacy efforts, a feat that is unmatched.
In 2007, nearly 50 Maine credit unions were active in promoting youth financial education. From volunteering and teaching youth financial education in local schools and operating in-school branches to participating in one of the Youth Financial Fitness Fairs coordinated by Maine's credit union and Maine Credit Union Youth Week, the Maine Credit Union League and Maine's credit unions exposed nearly 7,000 Maine students last year to financial literacy and money management concepts.
