Food Mobile

On Monday, September 26, the Food Mobile celebrated its sixth anniversary of delivering food to Maine's hungry.  Funded by the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger, which has raised and distributed more than $3.9 million to help end hunger in Maine since 1990, the Food Mobile, a joint partnership between Maine's credit unions and Good Shepherd Food Bank, has now delivered more than 2.5 million lbs of food to food pantries across Maine since it first went on the road in 2005.  On an ongoing basis, the Food Mobile delivers food to those areas that need it most, responds to emergencies and makes a difference to those that might otherwise go hungry.

"Without the Food Mobile, I don't know what we would have done.  The Food Mobile brought the food to us, and it really made a difference."  - Food Mobile Recipient in Portland (father of 4)

"In this economy, the Food Mobile enables us to respond quickly to communities that have an employer shut down unexpectedly, or some other event that affects a large group of people.  The generosity of Maine's credit unions enables us to make these deliveries and what it means to the people who benefit is something I will never be able to express in words." - Rick Small, Executive Director, Good Shepherd Food Bank

"When the floods struck the St. John Valley in April 2008, the Food Mobile was able to provide emergency food assistance even before the Red Cross.  Its ability to react quickly was such a help." - Fort Kent Flood Relief Workers
