Financial Education and Resources
Read the State of Maine Jump$tart's 2016 Youth Month Proclamation, which includes recognition of the efforts of Maine's Credit Unions.
When it comes to financial education, the Maine Credit Union League and Maine's credit unions are second-to-none. In fact, the Maine Credit Union Movement is the most-honored Credit Union Movement in the country when it comes to youth financial education. Maine's credit unions have received fourteen, consecutive Desjardins Awards for Youth Financial Education, a national Awards program that recognizes youth financial literacy efforts, a feat that is unmatched.
In 2015/16, nearly 55 Maine credit unions were active in promoting youth financial education. From volunteering and teaching youth financial education in local schools and operating in-school branches to participating in one of the Youth Financial Fitness Fairs coordinated by Maine's credit union and Maine Credit Union Youth Week, the Maine Credit Union League and Maine's credit unions exposed more than 17,000 Maine students last year to financial literacy and money management concepts.
Maine credit unions are also a valuable resource for helping adults with money management and financial planning. From providing tools to help members better manage their money, to hosting seminars on subjects such as decreasing debt or buying a home, Maine credit unions help Maine people of all ages achieve a secure financial future.
